SECTOR IN THE INDUSTRY
There are two key distinctions:
commercial foodservice, which comprises operations whose primary business is food and beverage.
non-commercial foodservice establishments where food and beverages are served, but are not the primary business.

QUICK-SERVICE RESTAURANTS
* known as fast-food restaurants
* A restaurant offering speedy basic services, convenience and consistent quality at low price.

FULL-SERVICE RESTAURANTS
*Fine dining restaurants
-known as ‘white tablecloth’ establishments distinguish themselves by
price, service, ambiance, location and menu offering.

*Ethnic restaurants
- typically reflect the owner’s cultural identity.
- While these restaurants are popular with many markets, they are often particularly of interest to visitors and new immigrants looking for a specific environment and other people with whom they have a shared culture.
CATERING AND BANQUETING
* catering the business of providing food service at a remote site or a site such as a hotel, public house (pub), or other location
*banquet is a large meal or feast, complete with main courses and desserts. It usually serves a purpose such as a charitable gathering, a ceremony, or a celebration, and is often preceded or followed by speeches in honor of someone.
*comprises food served by catering companies at banquets and special events at a diverse set of venue.
NON-COMMERCIAL
*Often run under a predetermined contract

HOTEL
*establishment providing accommodations, meals, and other services for travelers and tourists.
*Many type of hotel.

- Commercial Hotel
•An establishment that provides overnight accommodation, goods and services to the transient public or temporary guests needing accommodation for a few nights.
Example: Hilton, Kuala Lumpur.
-Residential Hotel
•In contrast to transient hotels, some hotels have traditionally provided accommodation for long-term guests - individuals who consider the hotel as their temporary or permanent home. Example: Ascott, Kuala Lumpur.
- Resort Hotel
•Lodging establishments that feature recreational activities for guests. These activities may be strictly for enjoyment, health purposes or both. Example: Pelangi Beach Resort Langkawi, Malaysia.
- Airport Hotel
•Hotels located near an airport catering to short stopovers or passengers of cancelled flights, providing limousine with pick-up schedules. Example: Pan Pacific KLIA.
- Economy Hotel
•Lodging facilities for cost-conscious travellers. Example: Formule1, France.
- Casino Hotel
•Transient hotel that house gaming casinos. They also provide lavish entertainment nationally known artists and professionally staged shows- as added attractions. Example: Genting Hotels
